Every year, millions of pets go missing. The ones most likely to make it home are the ones with microchips. A microchip is a permanent form of identification that cannot fall off, fade, or be removed — unlike a collar and tag. It is a single injection that takes seconds and lasts your pet’s lifetime.

How It Works

A microchip is a small RFID device — approximately the size of a grain of rice — implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades. It contains a unique identification number linked to your contact information in a national registry. When a lost pet is brought to a veterinary hospital or shelter, a standard scanner reads the chip and identifies the owner.
The procedure requires no anesthesia, takes seconds, and causes minimal discomfort — similar to a routine vaccine injection.

After Microchipping — Registration Matters

The chip itself is only as useful as the registration behind it. After microchipping at West Hills, we will walk you through registering your information in the national database — and remind you to update that information any time your address or phone number changes. An unregistered chip cannot bring your pet home.
