Hospice Care

We understand it is devastating when you receive the news that your beloved family pet has a life-threatening illness – the staff members at West Hills Animal Hospital & Emergency Center are here to help. Our hospice program provides compassionate care for your pet as well as education and emotional support for you and your family.

Our hospice program is focused on the comfort of your pet, not at finding a cure or treating his or her disease. It is an appropriate program if your pet has been diagnosed with an incurable illness or other treatment options have declined in providing a quality life for your pet.

There are many things we can do to help you make your pet more comfortable at home when he or she is in the end-of-life stage. We can help you with what to expect in those last few weeks, days, and hours in order to make the best decision for you, your pet, and your family.

We will assist you in implementing a treatment plan that meets your pet’s needs and respects your family’s wishes. Our at home hospice care includes, but is not limited to: education, pain management, nutritional needs, subcutaneous fluids, incontinence management, and bandage and wound care.

We will also offer quality-of-life consultation. We will help you assess your pet to determine when your pet’s quality-of-life has diminished to the point where you and your family may have to say goodbye to your beloved pet. When the time comes, we are here to make the euthanasia process peaceful, painless, and as stress-free as possible. Our veterinarians are available for house calls if you would prefer to say goodbye to your pet at home.
