Rabbits and Small Mammals

Compassionate Care for Tiny Patients

At West Hills Animal Hospital & Emergency Center, we know small animals can bring big love to your family. Our veterinarians are trained and experienced in treating small mammals, including rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas and guinea pigs.

We recommend annual wellness visits to keep your small pet healthy and establish a relationship with a veterinarian in case your pet needs more urgent health care.

Wellness exams help us monitor your pet’s health and provide an opportunity to catch subtle signs of illness early, when treatment is most effective. They may include:

  • A dental exam and dental care if needed
  • Diagnostic testing based on your pet’s condition and species
  • A full physical examination
  • A review of their diet and nutritional needs

A Healthy Start for Your New Small Pet

If you have recently welcomed a small mammal into your family, we encourage you to schedule a health exam within 1–2 weeks. This early visit allows us to check for any underlying health issues and guide you on habitat setup, diet and preventive care.

Be sure to keep your pet on the same food they were eating before you brought them home—our team will discuss long-term nutritional recommendations at your first appointment.
