Surgery

Safe and Skilled Surgical Care

Our experienced veterinarians at West Hills Animal Hospital can perform a range of surgical procedures, including:

  • Dental procedures
  • Emergency surgery and wound repair
  • Foreign object removal
  • Growth removal
  • Minimally invasive surgery
  • Soft tissue and general surgery
  • Spay and neuter surgery

If your pet requires more complex or specialized surgery, we will refer your case to our board-certified veterinary surgeons at our sister clinic, Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care, located next to West Hills Animal Hospital and Emergency Center.

Our Approach to Anesthesia and Safety

We take every precaution to minimize risk and maximize comfort for your pet during anesthesia. Pre-operative evaluations, individualized anesthetic plans, and continuous monitoring help ensure each procedure is performed with the highest standards of safety and care.

Before Surgery: Exam and Evaluation

  • Anesthetic protocols are individually tailored to your pet’s age, size and medical history
  • Blood work is performed to assess liver, kidney and heart function
  • Every patient undergoes a thorough physical exam and pre-surgical screening

Advanced Monitoring & Support

  • Continuous multi-parameter monitoring before, during, and after surgery includes:
    • Blood pressure
    • Body temperature
    • Heart rate and rhythm (ECG)
    • Oxygen saturation
    • Respiratory rate and ventilation

Pain Management: Comfort from Start to Finish

Our goal is to keep your pet as comfortable as possible, every step of the way.

  • Pain relief begins before surgery and continues throughout recovery.
  • We use a multi-modal approach to manage pain using low doses of different therapies and medications rather than a high dose of one single medication. This increases relief and lowers the chance of side effects.

After Surgery: Clear Communication and Ongoing Support

  • We will call you after your pet’s procedure with a detailed update.
  • At discharge, our team will carefully review aftercare instructions and answer any questions.
  • We will call you within a few days after discharge to check on your pet.
